Cows produce 3% more milk
A farmer found that when his cow listened to classical
music the milk it produced increased by 3%.
This increase of 3% represented 0.72 litres of milk.
---------------------------------------
calculate the amount of milk produced by the cow when it listened to classical music
Comments
let the total milk produced = x
3x/100 = 0.72
x = 72/3
x = 24litres
when it listened to classical music:
24+0.72 = 24.72 litres
The total amount of milk produced with 3% = 0.72 of a litre.
The single cow's total produced quantity of milk is 103% as it produced 3% extra on top of 100%.
You can solve this many ways. 0.72/3 = 1%, which could be multiplied by 103 to get the/your answer. 0.72/3 is also the number that 3 must be multiplied by to achieve the number 0.72. this same number multiplied by 103 would give the litres in 103%, or in other words, your answer.
You computer probobly has a calculator feature/program if you're missing one.
This increase of 3% represented 0.72 litres of milk.
So, initial milk produced is 0.72 *100/3= 24 lit
milk produced by the cow when it listened to classical music
is 24 + 3% of 24= 24.72 liters.
3% = 0∙72 L (÷ 3)
1% = 0∙24 L (x 103)
103% = 24∙72 L
0.72/3 x 100
24 litres (original amount)
add 0.72 to the amount to get the amount of milk produced when listening to music
24 + 0.72 = 24.72 litres
.72 divided by .03
= 24 litres
