How can I turn my 1991 Toyota Celica GT into a rally/race car?

I own a 1991 Toyota Celica GT with a 2.2 4 cyl EFI engine 5-speed...redline at 6500 rpms. I know back in the day there was a 91 Celica sponsored by Castrol that was an extremely good rally car.

Some of the things I though I mights need are:

- A turbo engine from JDM with 210hp at 7000rpm redline.

- Stage 3 clutch and lightwieght flywheel

- Cat-back exhaust system

- Blow off valve

- Intercooler

- Cold air Intake system

- Performance chip

I need to know if theres any specifics such as special suspension needs for going on dirt roads and such. Gimme all the tips and advice you can as well as links to websites that can help!

  • The rally car was an All-Trac; it was a four wheel drive version with a different engine, rear suspension, and I think there was even a different *floorpan*. It isn't worth the trouble of trying to turn a normal Celica into an All-Trac. Just find one of the All-Tracs, ideally one set up for racing already. You could fit the 3SGTE engine in there, but it would still be front wheel drive.

However, if you want to go racing in sanctioned rally events, you could just go through the rule book, gut the interior and add the required safety equipement and have fun. You can worry about more power once you've got the hang of keeping what you have under control. Also, suspension and tires are going to be more important than the amount of power - build yourself a 300 hp 3SGTE on a stock suspension and you'll have a rally car that's downright dangerous.
