I just got my first pair of Capezio canvas ballet shoes and I'm a little bit stuck on how to sew on the elastic without damaging the shoe. PLEASE HELP ME!
Capezio canvas shoes usually have the back end of the elastics sewn on so all you have to do is sew the tops.
First criss-cross the elastics and mark where you want to sew them in a pencil. Then flip the back inside out (to make it easier to sew). Because your shoes are canvas you can sew right through the material. I usually do that. The strongest way to sew is to sew a square with an x through it.
Make sure you don't sew through the drawstring.
Here it is again:
Fold down the heel of the shoe until it is flat against the socklining. Place a pencil mark where the fold creases closest to the binding. Stitch only one side of the elastic onto the binding right below the drawstring. Be careful not to sew the elastic over the drawstring.
Put the shoe on the dancer and gently pull the elastic strap over the instep where it is the most comfortable. Place a pencil mark where the elastic meets the binding. Stitch the elastic below the drawstring being careful not to sew the elastic over it.
HEY I've been there done that!! Your shoes may have come with a piece of elastic or it may not have. If it didn't then you should get elastic that matches your shoes. You can sew them in an X or you can sew just one piece across the center. If your shoes came with one of the ends of the elastics sewed on then the easiest would to just sew the other end. But if not then you should just sew them in an X.
Before you start to sew you want to mark the elastic to where it fits your foot. The thread that you should use would be pink thread or thread that matches the elastic. Knot the end of the thread then poke it through the inside of your shoe you'll want it close the little lip of the shoe. Then just weave in and out until you've reached the other end. Once you get to the other end leave a little hole on the last loop then come back from the other side and loop it through to make a knot. If that makes any sense. Hope this makes sesce and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!! on sewing your first ballet shoes!
are you crossing the elastic? if it isn't already attached to the back here's what i do: fold down the back of the shoe, you'll have two little "darts" where the crease forms. that's where you want to attach the elastic. once that on, put on the shoe andcross the elastic, noting how tight you need it to be. then you can sew the other end, it should be right where the stitching of the arch goes. if you're having trouble with the thread, you can use dental floss, it goes through a bit easier. also, make sure you're sweing the elastic on the inside of the show, and below the drawstring, you won't be able to pull the show tighter otherwise
Cross the elastics so they make an x and sew the elastic to the inside of the shoe. It's better to use thread thats the smae color of the shoe, because it looks more neat.
hi i take advantage of approximately 1m of ribbon before everything..you may continuously decrease it down later. Fold down the decrease back of your ballet shoe so that's flat, to create one in each and every of those triangle shape (its quite annoying to describe, sorry). the place the fold is is the place you stitch your ribbon. stitch it at ninety tiers to the shoe, and stitch the two ends until eventually now you decrease the ribbon, then decrease it in 0.5. Then tie the ribbons, and in the event that they're too long you may decrease them down. wish this helps Nina x

sew near your achilies tendon (back anckle) and cross and sew neer the middle-beginning of your arch.
Always sew inside your sew so elastic isnt on the outside
use a single thread and a small pointed needle.
hope this helps and remember to pin the elastics in position when the shoe is on your foot so it fits properly.
