Astrocytoma cancer help?
Hi I was diagnosed in 2007 with a pylocytic astrocytoma tumor in the left temporal lobe. Not all was operable so some still remains.
My question is that when you see the life rate is around 10 years does that mean I have 10 years to live? Or what?

No, that is an "average." Some people do much better and some worse.
Strange how people take the percentages we give them and come up with,
"My doctor gives me ten years."
We have no way of knowing how each individual will do,
and we do not "give" people their survival times.
It is not in our hands.
Yet people take averages and turn them into predictions.
If you have had no progression in five years, your chances should improve
compared to the average survival.
I see a well qualified oncologist has answered your question quite thoroughly. I was told the same thing, but I certainly don't dwell on it. I had oligoastrocytoma grade 3 and it was completely removed. My onco said the average regrowth time is around 5 years and the average lifespan is 10 years. Often, they grow back at a higher grade, which isn't great news for you nor I... The only thing you can do is have your mri's every few months and live your life in between them.
