If you like maraschino cherries, here's a great recipe:
CHERRY NUT ICE CREAM
2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups whole milk, plus more to till freezer
1 8-oz. bottle maraschino cherries, chopped, with juice
1 cup toasted pecans, chopped
1 quart whipping cream
1 can Eagle Brand milk
2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
Red food coloring, optional (I don't use it)
In a heavy, medium sized saucepan, mix the sugar, flour and salt. Add the eggs and 2 cups of milk; cook slowly over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes to cook the eggs. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Stir in the cherries and juice, pecans, whipping cream, Eagle Brand milk and vanilla. Mix in enough red food coloring, if desired, to make it pink. Pour into a 5 quart freezer container and add enough additional milk to bring it to the fill line. Freeze as per your ice cream freezer directions. Enjoy!
