How do I convert a US Diploma into GCSE scores for England?

I am trying to apply to a graduate program in London. I am trying to figure out how to translate the information in my USA high school diploma into the equivalent GCSE scores for London? Is there any official conversion scale?

  • Contact the admisons office at the graduate school.

  • There is no scale, but that's because a diploma and GCSE scores are different things, and different schools may give one more importance than another. GCSE is one of the first rounds of standardized testing that help sixteen-year-olds determine what subjects to take in their A-levels. Their A-levels (at seventeen/eighteen) are a bit more like our SAT scores, except they take the tests in any subjects they may want to focus on in university.

Contact the admissions office if you're unsure of what to do. If the graduate program accepts Americans (which they do if they'll consider you), they can decide what is equivalent to what, and it's better than trying to figure it out yourself. Your SAT scores and statewide standarized test scores are the closest thing to your GCSE/A-Level grades, but they are not exactly equivalent and different schools may give them different weights.
