Professor refuses physics make-up exams?
So a few weeks ago I missed an exam as I had the flu. The syllabus said that makeup exams are given only for excused absences including illness, so I brought my insurance letter that I had to get and hospital note. Then he refused to let me makeup the exam, saying I could only take the comprehensive exam over 10 chapters to replace it like everyone else. Physics is hard, if that was the case and the syllabus didn't explicitly state that excused absences are allowed I would have went in with the flu and taken the damn test and gotten an A because no one passes the comprehensive exam. A friend suggested I talk to the dean of the department because it's really going to affect my grade. I wanted another opinion though..
Should I just settle for the possible D on the comprehensive even though I'm an A student?

If you were sick and have a medical note verifying you were ill, take it up the ladder. Go to the head of the department. And do it now
