i7, weak processor?

First of all, I would like to state that I HAVE NO IDEA what is i3 , i5 , i7 or whatever it is.

So my PC has a i3 quadcore 3.3 GHz.

And recently I bought a laptop, they offered me i7 processor thingy (quad core), when the product came the number is 2.4 GHz.

Does it better than my PC or worse ?

  • Your processor has more raw speed.

The i7 has hyperthreading though. So it can technically handle double the amount of tasks in a single instance(which you can attribute to being faster in a sense)

The i7 also has more cache. Cache is similar to ram but faster accessed. So when performing a like task continuously..the i7 will outperform with the higher memory bandwidth.

The integrated graphic performance of the chip is also better than the i3.

  • The i3 is dual core hyperthread, not an actual quad core. An i7 quad core processor will outperform an dual core i3 processor even at a lower clock speed. Certain i5 processors can actually outperform select i7 processors.

  • I3: Weakest processor of the bunch (2 cores)

i5: The middle ground (4 cores)

i7: The most powerful one (4 cores, 4 extra threads)

There are off course exceptions, but this is a general rule of thumb
