Do I need a US transit visa if i fly to Canada via Detroit?

I am a Filipino citizen who's been granted a visitor's visa to Canada. I'm flying to go to Canada via Detroit, so i want to know whether i would be needing a US transit visa if i stop over at Detroit and drive from there to Toronto. Thank you for your answers to my previous question. Do i need to get a visa from the USA if i stop over at Detroit on my way to Toronto?

  • You will need some sort of visa as you can say you're driving directly to Canada all you want, they might not buy it. Since you are crossing the 'customs line' at the airport, you will be staying for some length of time in the US so they need proof that you're ok to be there.

If it was just a stopover in the airport, waiting on the next flight, you wouldn't need one.

  • you will not be in transit if you get of in detroit and drive to canada, so you will need a visitor visa for america

transit is when you are changing planes or the plane has stopped to refuel or let passengers off, you would not leave the airport normally

  • I dont think that you would need a passport.
