Problem with brake system?

AT random times when I brake, as im pushing the pedal down it stops short and feels like something is blocking it and the brakes barely grab. I have a feeling it could be due to the calipers but I'm not sure what is causing the brake pedal not to fully go down. When this happens I have to pump and pump the brakes then it will finally go back to normal. ANy idea what the problem is?

  • sounds as if there may be a burr on the piston that pushes into the master cylinder or on the cylinder itself

  • Sounds like you might want to get it checked out. Not being able to brake properly is a safety issue. Your brake master cylinder may be low on brake fluid, or you may have a problem with the brake calipers, but it's hard to tell without getting someone to take a look at them.

It's best to get it fixed so you don't end up hitting something when you can't stop in time.

  • There are SO many brake shops in most areas that will give you a free brake inspection. TRY going to one. From your description, it sound like you do have a sticking brake caliper piston. All cars require the changing of brake fluid every 2-3 years, otherwise the fluid turns acidic and begins to eat away rubber brake components and seals, or rusting up of the metal parts. GOOD LUCK!!
