I am thinking of taking a degree in astrophysics and i was wondering what the basic pay would be and whether a PHD/ post grad degree is required for most positions.
Base pay will vary depending on your experience and responsibilities. I'd say US$ 50K to start with an advanced degree getting potentially US$ 80K to start. There is work for people with physics and astrophysics degrees at all levels. If you are wanting to be an active participant in leading edge research, the advanced degrees are clearly needed.
Why not think about the kinds of work you'd like to be involved with (maybe you already have done this) and then pick a degree field that can give you good background for that kind of work.
