How do I sync a a dish remote to a tv on a dish hdtv box?

I recently got dish tv and I got an hd box so I can watch tv in hd. But the volume and power buttons dont work on my tv. Is there anything I can do to get them to work?

Or you could even get codes through your receiver on channel 100
