Can a uk diploma trained nurse apply for a visa to canada as a licensed practical nurse?

Nurses in Canada are required to be degree trained. If a uk diploma trained Nurse emmigrated to canada he or she could work as a LPN or as a Registered Nurse if he/she completed an extra top up course.

There are limited spaces for registered nurses to apply to emmigrate from the uk so it would make sense to me to apply as a LPN.

This is a very specific question and I would especially appreciate answers from those who have emmigrated to Canada. Thank you.

  • LPN is not in the skilled category for immigration to Canada. Not only do you need your BSN but you need to be generalist trained, with theory and clinical hours in peds, adult, OB/maternity and mental health.LPNs need hours in all areas as well.

  • No work visa's are issued to LPN's, not enough of an educational degree. Perhaps a Masters degree in nursing and a highly specialized field might get you a visa.
