Crazy to do 5 A Levels?

For GCSE I obtained:

2 B's,

6 C's and

1 D, and I want to do

History,

English Lit,

Geography and

Sociology ( already obtaining a distinction at an Alevel BTEC course) all in which I got good grades in.. I was thinking about doing Law as a 5th as I was considering law at uni and wanted to see before hand if I Would really enjoy the subject, is this option of 5 a levels too hard or is it achievable?

Update:

By the way just because it may appear i did 'badly' on my gcses and apparently shouldn't even be allowed to do a-levels im doing a level standard now and getting As so shut-up.

  • Do three or four and get good grades. The work is far greater at A level. My Cousin had 11 A star GCSEs took 5 a levels and dropped one because she couldn't cope. She is now on course for 4 top grades.

  • Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but taking 5 A Levels with GCSE grades like that is a bad idea. At my sixth form college you wouldn't even be allowed to take 4 A Levels (you need at least 5 Bs or above to do so)!

In my GCSEs, I got 9 A*s and 2 As. I am currently in Year 12 and I am taking 5 subjects (English Literature, Latin, French, Biology and Maths), and I am already finding it a struggle! I am definitely going to drop one of them so I end up with 4 A Levels and 1 AS Level in the end.

It's better to take 4 strong subjects and get good grades in them than to take 5 and to mess one of them up.

Remember, even Oxbridge are happy to accept people with only 3 A Levels (providing they are good grades in good subjects)! I was just forced into taking 5 AS Levels because I am in the "gifted and talented" group at school and because my parents wanted me to.

You could always have a chat with teachers of the subjects you want to study, or with your school careers/options advisor, and see whether they think you have chosen the right courses and the right amount of A Levels. Just remember that taking on 5 A Levels is really hard work!

    Good luck!

  • I kinda agree with the other answers. To do 5 A Levels, you should be getting straight As and A*s. I'm not saying your results are bad, however it would be so much better for you to just concentrate on 4 subjects, and get much higher grades in those. If you do 5, and can't cope, then you might not get the best grades in the other subjects.

I highly recommend only 4, because the workload at A Level is so much more... But speak to you advisor at school, and they will be able to give you all the information you need.

  • Um..with GCSEs that poor, you should be thinking seriously about whether you'll even manage 3 A levels. 5 is completely insane.

Speak to an adviser. Seriously. You are marginal for even managing A level standard work. No decent school would let you start an A level course you didn't have at least a B in, and most would demand an A.

  • It's certainly challenging! Five subjects will be very demanding. Are you sure you're up to it? Your GCSE grades are okay, but you're not exactly a high achiever (that isn't meant in a malicious way - I just mean as in straight A's). Think carefully before you commit.

  • I know people who got all As in their subjects, took five, struggled and failed around 2, I'm not saying this would be you but the best idea is do the subjects you performed the best in and do 3 or 4 of them.

  • nicely, i'm on the brink of point 5 and that i'm feeling the comparable way. possibly we've something incorrect with us, of direction we do, we are spending our time answering questions for no longer something!!LOL besides I even have been thinking approximately questions i could ask that have been humorous so i could be contacted with the aid of the Yahoo police. it is so intense high quality to be pointed out with a collection!! i'm close, beware!! i think I could upload you to my record of "contacts". i think of it quite is frightening. Oh nicely it is late and time to stop. i'm going to look to your questions.
