How much do colonoscopies cost?
My Dr. Told me I may need a colonoscopy. I have had major gas, constipation, bleeding from the rectum, mucus, and severe bruising on my thighs. I have also lost 12 pounds and no appetite in the last 2 months so i know I probably need one to rule out stuff.
The thing is I am a substitute teacher and don't make much money so I don't think I can afford one. Does anyone know how much they cost? I do have insurance (PPO with Anthem) that has a $500 deductible I have already met. I'm just curious how much others colonoscopies cost cause I've been hearing things from $300- 10,000. Thanks.
Also has anyone had these same symptoms recently and what were ur outcomes with it?

The cost depends on a few factors - such as what state or city you are in -doctors vary, somewhat in what they charge. Also, you have to figure the cost of the facility where the procedure is performed.
A lot of doctors use a smaller facility than a hospital - this is usually cheaper than a hospital.
I had one about 5 years ago (my insurance covered it ) it cost around $2000 - (That covered the facility and the doctors charge.
Cost would probably be around $3000 to $4000 for the doctors fee and the facility.
your insurance would probably cover a good portion of the cost.
If they remove polyps etc. this would add to the cost. Also there is a cost for any biopsies etc.
There are a few conditions that can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Chrohns disease and ulcerative colitis ) can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
These are rather serious problems , but can be helped by treatiments.
Yes, there is the possibility of the one disease you are worried most about, but that can also be treated very effectively.
I wish you Good Luck - and please, do have the p rocedure done!
