Atrial Septal Defect?

Yesterday my friend phones me and tell me that she has been diagnosed with ASD. The thing that bothers me the most is she's supposed to come and visit me in a month's time and doesn't want to ask her dr of it's ok to fly. She said the hole looks like almost the top half of her heart and has to go for surgery before next year September. She's 24, and living a rather healthy lifestyle, but she can't take aspirin because she has a low platelet count.

Can anyone tell me if she can fly (it's only and hour's flight but still) and anything she can do just to delay any increase in size.

Only serious answers please. I'm devastated and not in the mood for jokes.

Update:

@ Emgee: You're a real A$$! Takes no one's feelings into consideration.

  • It will be up to her Cardiologist to decide wether she can fly or not. Has she flown before this was diagnosed because ASD been a congenital issue she has probably had it since she was born and hasnt yet caused a problem. But i would still leave it up to her cardiologist.

Best of luck hope you can see her :)

  • It has nothing to do with you. Get off your @ss and fly there.
