Is Portugal a safe country?
My parents are portuguese. They never spoke portuguese with me and my english is not so good. I want to go to portugal with my girlfriend but she says portugal is not safe. Is that true? My parents don't care to say much about the issue and I'm curious about my heritage and that country. Help me. I live in Lebanon,Beirut and the portuguese working here are very rude. I think it can't be more dangerous than Lebanon. Is it?

I was in Beirut twice in my life. One just before one war the other after the last war not so long ago. I must say your girlfriend parents are very liberal since they give permission to their teen daughter to go out of the country alone with her boyfriend. Lebanon is a bit different from other islamic countries but also have many old habits. I hope she does not arrive in Portugal with a veil only showing her eyes.
I'm sure you know what you are doing.
Portugal is one of the safest countries in Europe. In big cities like anywhere there is a bit of everything. There are some areas mainly in Lisbon were is advisable not to go but not many and they are never in touristic guides. No problem. Just one problem, if your girlfriend as a veil only showing her eyes with the face totally covered you might not be allowed to enter in some public places or shops. She must show her face even with the veil. If so no problem. I live in Lisbon so I've seen all of it in situations like that. I think you will have a nice time. Portuguese are very friendly, helpful and like to help. You know English than its easy because most people speaks English. Anyway it might be nice to learn some basic words and phrases.
You want regret your trip.
I can understand your parents. They decided to stay in Lebanon and educate you there fully integrated. I'm sure it was not easy for them to integrate. So they wanted you to integrate right from school time.
Lebanon is a wonderful place but not so safe as Portugal.
Welcome.
"They never spoke portuguese with me"
Totally uncommon of Portuguese People not to teach Portuguese to their children. (I think you're unique in that sense).
Portugal it's surely safer than Beirute,or Brazil.I got you.
It depends on which city you are going too...
Where I live, I can walk across town at 4am and the most dangerous thing that could happen to me is probably trip over my own feet...
But in some bigger cities you'd certainly get mugged.
Overall it's safe. Portugal is the 16th safest country out of 158 while lebanon is 136th...

It's safer than Lebanon, that's for sure. At least I can cross the street without being afraid of having my head blown off by a sniper shot.
Portugal, it variety of feels to me as a Dutch citizen with some holiday experience there, is doubtless considered one of the main secure places in Europe. i've got seen human beings act like entire jerks there, and that they have got been given plenty heftier charges and laughed at, yet in any different case they have been high-quality. in spite of all and sundry disliking them, they have been given carted homestead to their lodge in a wheelbarrow by potential of a community farmer as quickly as they have been given inebriated.
Portugal is one of the safest countries, worldwide.
I have no idea where your girlfriend got the impression of Portugal being unsafe.
