Navy, STA-21, dual degree?

Hey all.

I will be entering the Navy on November 19th. I know it is extremely hard to get into the STA-21 program, but I will not stop until I do (I am 21, have my Associate's, and will be 23 by the time I can apply for it.)

My question is a few q's long.

1. What age is the later you can apply for the STA-21 program?

2. When in the STA-21 program, is double-majoring an option? And why or why not?

3. If I get my degree through the STA-21 program, would I, after, be able to get a second degree, and the Navy pay for it?

4. If I want to eventually get my Doctorate in something, would the Navy pay for it?

Thank you in advance!

And yes, I know the STA-21 program is extremely hard to get into, and it may not be possible...there is no need to be rude or mean.

  • You cannot apply for STA-21 with a college degree already. If you take STA-21 and finish you are an officer and officers do not get the GI bill. One degree per customer.

  • All right, I've had enough of this.

Quit asking these questions. You've gotten a good answer from Conor F. Repeatedly asking the same question over and over is a violation fo Y!A Community Guidelines.

You aren't even in the Navy yet, you're still a DEPper. When you get in, ask your career counselor. Start working towards it given the information you get from him or her, and shoot to start applying at your 5-6 year mark. You won't be competitive until that mark. And you 5-6 years from now probably will not be the same person you are now, and may no longer be interested in being an officer. Even more importantly, STA-21 may have different requirements and precepts in 5-6 years (I can guarantee that one, actually). All you can do right now is get through Boot and A-school, and then be the best MC you can be while eventually applying for STA-21.

This isn't a rude answer, by the way; it's an honest one. You're trying to plan out step 28 when you haven't even hit step 1 yet. You need to slow down and focus on more immediate priorities or else you might not even get there.

    General guidelines:

    1) Depends on your option.

    2) No, because you won't be able to finish it in 36 months. Most people are working pretty hard to finish one degree in that time, you won't make two. There's nothing

    3) Yes, provided on a lot of things. As an officer, you can earn the GI Bill once you finish your Minimum Service Requirement for any branch (at least with the new GI Bill).

    4) Maybe, but most likely not.

    3. You could get a more advanced degree and have the Navy pay for it. Not a second Bachelors.

    4. Under certain very select programs yes. And usually these are only for Academy professors.

Have you even used the STA 21 website?
