If the blades are not encased behind a wire screen, you could just wipe the blades with a damp soapy cloth. If they have a screen around the fan, I sometimes take it outdoors and blow off the dust with a powerful leaf blower. Good luck!
I use water, yep..... unplug fan..... First is spritz the blades with cleaner......like Mr. Clean or 409.....absolutely avoiding the motor. Then I go to the sink and carefully use the spray attachement on the faucet to rinse off the cleaner......absolutely avoiding the motor!!! Then I set it aside for a few days before turning it on. Be sure to wipe down the air vents for the motor.......no water spray here. A small brush might be needed to remove dust. Dry brush.
