how do I solve this quadratic formula problem for algebra 1?
this problem uses the quadratic formula, which i don't understand at all. please teach me how to do this by using the quadratic formula, and explain all steps. thanks so much!
an object that is projected straight downward with initial velocity v feet per second travels a distance s=vt+16t^2, where t= time in seconds. if ramon is standing on a balcony 84 feet above ground and throws a penny straight down with initial velocity of 10 feet per second, in how many seconds will it reach the ground?
a) 2 seconds
b) 3 seconds
c) 6 seconds
d) 8 seconds
thanks so much!

You can find the quadratic formula on the internet. Put the problem equation in the typical quadratic form of (ax^2+bx+c=0) where a=16, b=10, c=-84. (84=10t+16t^2) Now, plug the values for a, b and c into the formula and get the 2 possible factors. If you don't have accdess to the formula, you can always substitute each of the answers into the eauation to find which one makes it true.
