Do dogs get colds ? If not what would the problem be ?

  • Dogs doesn't have sweat glands, they sweat from their tongue and sometimes through their nose. They can't literally taste anything and their appetite is based on smell.

Your dog might be having an active moments and have been sweating.

  • If the runny nose is just a clear watery discharge, then that is quite normal, dogs do get runny noses particularly when its hot, I think it helps to keep the nose leather moist.

If the discharge is an opaque or snotty discharge and the dog is off colour then a visit to the vets is required. Dogs don't get the common cold like humans but they do get Kennel Cough which is an upper respiratory infection, which is highly contagious to other dogs and is characterised by a harsh, hacking cough which may also come with a snotty nose and phlegmy throat.

  • I wouldn't worry too much yet. If he has other unusual behaviors however, go to your vet immediately. If your dog is eating and drinking as well as going to the bathroom normally, he should be ok. A runny nose means that his immune system is working properly:) Also, wet noses are good. If it is dry, then that's not good and you should go to the vet.

  • just keep an eye on it, it may be the start of kennel cough, especially if the dog sounds as though it has a sore throat, hacking cough and the dog looks as though he has a snotty nose. It's contagious to other dogs so a trip to the vet or a dose of Benilyn and kept away from other dogs would help.if not he may just have a slight allergy but just keep your eye on him/her

  • Well tell him to run after it

Sorry I could not help that one (hope I haven't up set you)

Yes I believe dogs can get colds but not like us

Keep an eye on it & if in dought rember the vet

  • Dogs can get bacterial infections or even suffer a corona virus. It might pass on its own, but if she appears ill for more than a couple of days or seems to get worse I would take her to the vet.

  • my siberian husky Dakota always has a runny nose and iv been told this is the sign of a healthy dog

  • See my dog's nose runs all the time, i think he has allergies. but when does yours mostly get it? mine only gets it when he has spent ALL day looking out side through the windows, then he crashes on the floor, and when he wakes up his eyes and nose are running i just wipe it off of him and send him on his way.

  • Yes. They can get colds, and they can also have allergies. Your vet can prescribe medication. I know of many pets who are on allergy meds.

  • Yes dogs can get colds, but also it can just be excess moisture. Give it a kleenex.
