swim/gym class problem 10 points?

I just recently had my cousin pass away on Friday from a massive heartattack. He was a great guy and very young too. i know i didnt see him a lot but he was still a big part of me. He has a son who is 3 months older than me and i have to be there for him. My cousin is a mess. I had to miss school for the funeral which was today. This is the first swim class i missed and im done to a 66. im failing swim because i had a funeral to go to. im gonna try to talk to her about it. Do you thinks its fair to get a zero because i had a death in my funerl? what do i do if she gives me a zero?

Update:

I NEVER MISSED A CLASS! IDK HOW MY GRADE IS THIS LOW AND I HAD A SNOW DAY BEFORE SO I COULD TELL HER A HEAD OF TIME

  • She didn't know you were missing because of a funeral, right? Most schools have policies about excused absences. You need a note- and maybe the obituary notice or something to show her- and to talk to her about it.

  • The thing here is timing-letting some one know before you miss is important; its like work-you tell them before, you don't just not show up to work one day and then hope you have a job no matter what the excuse.

You teacher may forgive this because it was a funeral, but learn how to handle things like this-in the future you could be fired for something like this.

    Sorry for your loss.

  • No, I don't think that it's fair, however your grade clearly wasn't perfect prior to this incident. I understand how you can feel super overwhelmed right now, but you can get through it. Talk to your teacher, explain to her what has been going on in your life. She may understand, but if not you have to try to keep up your grade. While it may not be a subject you care about, you still have to try. If she gives you an absoulute zero, then confront not only her, but someone like another teacher or principle. But before you do anything, let your teacher know what has happened, and explain to her you really want to make it up. If he/she sees you care about the class, they may be more flexible in how strict they grade you. Sorry about your loss, hope this helps!
