All cruise passengers are required to possess a passport unless they are on a closed loop cruise.
U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same U.S. port) will be able to enter or depart the country with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport to enter the countries your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruise line to ensure you have the appropriate documents.
Even though a passport is not required I would highly recommend one. If you get stuck in a foreign country without one you can't fly home. Also if you miss the initial departure of the ship you would not be able to fly to the next port to catch it. The passport cards that are being issued as an alternative to the passport book will not allow you to fly.
Princess was giving a $250 onboard credit last year. I do not know if it is still current. I received it on my December cruise. Contact Lisa B. McDaniel at Princess at 800-872-6779 ext 30305.

How about a New England cruise? Alaska Cruise (just make sure you leave from a US and return to a US port). If you deside to get a passport, don't let him check your mail. My first passort took me 5 weeks to get in May 2000 and my second passport took 2 weeks (renewals take alot less time!)
If you are both US citizens and leave from and return to the same port you do not need a passport. However, you will need an original or certified copy with raised seal of your birth certificate to prove citizenship and a photo Id like a driver license.
Royal Caribbean gives military discounts.
Hi Cookie.
I take care of ALL vets, but, Marines get a little more. ;>)
If you REALLY must surprise him, google "WHTI +cruise".
It can be done, on ANY cruise line. The only catch is it has to sail and return to the U.S.
A couple of lines offer decent Military discounts. Carnival if you want a party boat, Princess if you want fun, but, little more sophistication, etc.
Stop by, see what you like, tell me, and let me do the rest (only if you want.... this is an "offer", not a solicitation).

SemperFI!
Carnival also gives military discounts and ofter better than Royal
I am biased but call an independent qualified cruise specialist and they can help you pick the right cruise ship for you. They can give you personalized service and great low prices. It cost you nothing extra and they will handle all the details.
The only cruises that you can take in the US without a passport leave from Hawaii and stay within the Hawaiian Islands and cruises that leave from Seattle and travel into Alaska. Otherwise, it has to leave from the US, and never travel into international waters.
Good luck with that! You better bring it anyway!
