Sam's right. I sang alto for years-through high school and most of college because I didn't really know how to use my upper range and my voice hadn't fully matured yet (it didn't until I was in my late twenties). In fact, a choir director actually told me when I was about 20 or so that I was going to turn into a soprano when I got older. I keep telling people not to equate "singing high" with "singing well". It's not the same thing. Take lessons from a qualified instructor who will teach you to use ALL parts of your vocal range.
The short answer is no. If you are classified as an alto after a few years of singing experience, you can't magically turn into a soprano.
However, there's a good number of mezzos and sopranos out there whose voices aren't strong enough for the high notes yet. Therefore, they're limited to alto range. As they progress, they will become more comfortable with their mezzo or soprano notes, and it will sound more confident. But it will not be because they were "turned into" sopranos or mezzos, it is because now they are able to use their entire range. There's a solid chance that you could be able to sing higher notes with practice and scales, but they won't turn you into a soprano if those notes aren't in your natural range.
Im sure its POSSIBLE but if you are an alto then you would need to do various high pitched vocal warm ups and exercises to practice strengthening your voice. And of course just practice, maybe even get some professional training. but of course, im no expert...Good luck=)
Could you answer mine?
