Maybe cuz the intelligent people are so intelligent that they know about life and people , like maybe they know that people cannot really be trusted and they understand that, so they dont trust people, leading to people not wanting to get to know them , so that means that they dont have much friends in their life, thus they may not have joy and friendship in their life, so they're unhappy . But it really depends . and you know, they say that everything is a miracle. and if you're intelligent, you may not think that way, so a miracle to them is like a great discovery or something, and not something tiny but makes us happy, like going on a holiday, not having homework and those little things, and its really rare to have a great discovery so they may not be happy in that sense . And Naive people are normally the ones who are the happiest, like children .
