How do egg cells replicate?
How do egg cells (gametes) replicate? Is it through mitosis or meiosis?
Do they simply replicate the chromosomes and then split?
Its for Science GCSE so nothing too complex
Thanks for the help
Update:any answers? at all?

The answer is, gametes do not replicate. Instead, they are created from another kind of cell. For egg cells, these "precursor cells" are called "oocytes." They are not egg cells, but cells that have the full complement of 2n chromosomes. These cells undergo meiosis to mix and match their DNA and reduce their chromosome number, and the end result is an egg cell.
Same thing for sperm, except that each "spermatocyte" produces 4 sperm cells, while each oocyte produces only one egg.
Hope this helps!
