I have a 10 month old golden retriever that I just adopted. She is light yellow and looks very graceful. I want to have that "special bond" that an owner and a dog have! I want her to follow me around and want to lay or sit beside me and snuggle with me. any pointers?

Do most of the training. If she sees you as master she'll respect you a lot. Take her on lots of walks, praise her a lot, giveher attention, groom her if she likes it. Those are hte basics.
I also reccomend agility training too. A lot of dogs like it, yours may. If she expresses that she enjoys agility, it can be a great bonding session for both you and your dog plus the additional bonus of excersie. If she's not too fond of agility try a few other dog sports. And perhaps se isn't a real sporty dog. Take her places like the beach, nature trails, lakes, rivers, hikes, etc. She'll learn that she gets to do all the fun stuff with you and get attached!
Spend special time with her. Take a training class together & then spend time together training & practicing. Go on regular special walks or hikes. Teach her to retrieve & spend time playing ball with her. Have her over for "girls night" & cuddle & watch movies.
Just wait for it to trust you. Not all dogs will bond with just anyone. It's just not going to happen right away. Things like this take a long time to happen.
If you are loyal to her, take her for walks, do training and love her and exercise with her, she will love you forever. As they say its
Exercise, Discipline, and love.
