How to do a massive upgrade?
My computer is a Compaq 2.8 GHZ Intel pentium D with 448MB of RAM. It's windows Xp SP3 and it was given to me 6 years ago. FYI i don't even know the actual name. Anyway I always wanted to play games like Crysis and Call of Duty on it without lagging, but it doesn't even meet the requirements. How do you suggest I go about upgrading it within a budget of SGD$500? And don't tell me to buy a new computer, I'm not allowed to do so

It is a lga 775 skt mobo which means you can probably fit a core 2 quad cpu eg the q6600 these can be picked up very reasonably s/h, your ram i would think will go to at least 2gb more likely 4gb ddr2(check your exact type). And you will have a pcie x16(well should have) slot so most modern video cards will fit, as said you may also need a new psu but depending on what video cad maybe not, very modern cards draw less power, you need to find the full specs of the pc http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/pc-wizard.html
Upgrade you RAM and processor.
RAM - $75 SGD for 2 GB
AMD HD Graphics processor 2.6 GHz Quad-core processor for $107
Optionally, add an SSD Cache (low capacity small internal storage device to store your games) on top of your existing HDD. - $115
Total of $297
All prices above are approximate USD to SGD conversions.
Hope this helps!
500sdg is rought 250 UK pounds...
Firstly, download cpu-z for your windows system and run it.
Check your mainboard tab (cpu-z) to identify why motherboard you have.
Google the motherboard and check what RAM it takes,
***********
If it uses DDR2 RAM then you might want to change the mobo and CPU.

once armed with this info buy a pair of 2gb sticks. (4gb total)
Replace the old RAM with the new. (pc system, unplugged)
Next, 'OCZ ModXstream Pro 600w' power supply and a Radeon HD 6870.
Should come in under budget, check the likes of ebay, amazon and Google shopping....
Note
I did think about upgrading the windows platform, but if you do that you my as well upgrade the mobo, and with that the RAM and even CPU........which is all money money money......
actually u will need to sell this off
and assemble a new pc
even i don't prefer buying a desktop because it will be expensive and less powerful as they charge u only for warranty(only in case of desktops)
