How do i read a mass spectrum?

I need help with reading my mass spectrum...the base peak (higher peak) is 91 and the parent peak which is the molecular ion peak of 106 mass unit. However, how do i know what compound it is...please help me out with this question thanks :)

10pts best answer greatly appreciated

  • We need more information. It's not possible to determine the compound with just two masses. What else do you know? The difference between the two 106-91 = 15 which is a methyl group (CH3) attached to a heteroatom (an atom that is different to carbon). Best guess at the moment is some kind methyl ester or a methyl ether.

  • I HAVE NO CLUE =?
