Braces made my lips chap?

Beh, every since I got braces my lips have been all dry, I have tried just about every lip balm possible but it never goes away. I have to keep applying the lip balm to keep my lips moist.

That wouldn't be a big deal if the lip balm didn't make like white gunky crap on my lips after applying it.

So it's like either have dry lips or possibly have some white stuff on my lips.

I drink a lots of water, maybe there is some vitamin I can take or something?

Booo...

Am I pretty much screwed for the next 2-4 years?

  • I had this same problem when I first got my braces. For whatever reason the metal really dries your mouth out and in turn dries your lips b/c you're constantly licking them. I use carmex particularly @ bedtime so it moistens my lips through the night. During the day I use chapstick/gloss but I try not to use alot and don't put it in the inside part of your lip. When your saliva mixes w/ the chapstick it causes the gunky white crap. You just have to be mindful of it and try to wipe it off and reapply. Hope this helps. It gets better the longer you have them!!!!

  • Try going to a doctor about it... If you breathe through your mouth- stop it it's probably what's causing your chapped lips if you lick your lips -don't do that only makes them dryer. try putting a thin coat of honey over your lips for about 2-5 mins it should work and you can eat the honey afterwards :) hope i helped! :)

  • There is a such thing as being allergic to the metal your braces are made out of. It's like a one in a million shot but it may be something to look into.

  • Put lots of chapstick on at night right before you go to bed or just around your house if your not going anywhere. When you are out put a little on.

  • Go see a doctor about this

  • wash your teeth.

    floss.

wear chapstick a lot (carry one)

    at night, petroleum jelly.
