  • "Ay, tear her tattered ensign down!"

It means tear (or take down) her (the ship's) tattered (ripped, torn by battle) ensign (naval flag)

Take down Old Ironsides' battle-ravaged Naval flag.

    (Extra credit)

BTW, that ship is amazing....it is the oldest active commissioned warship in the world. She was christened in 1797 and never lost a battle thanks to her oak hull, which was up to 27" thick in some areas. ;-)

  • This epic looks daunting at first glance, until you begin to read. The 4 parts establish their intent and capture the reader with interesting choices of voicing in good rhythm. I found myself "caught up" in the momentum, as one does with a "page turner" novel. The all important Part 4 satisfies, As it is emotionally counterbalanced with the other 3 elements, still fresh in the readers consciousness. This work only enhances my respect for this gifted writer. Thanks LCF for the archival research Such efforts only strengthen the foundation of Yap.
