Hey Guys,

I'm from NZ and getting an Austrian passport as my grandfather was an austrian jew and never became a citizen here.

Just looking for info on the following things..

Do female citizens have to do compulsory army service??

Is Austria part of the European Union?

    have you already applied for your passport? for i find it odd that you would get Austrian citizenship, unless one of you parents holds Austrian citizenship also;Austrian citizenship is based primarily on the principle of Jus sanguinis. In other words one usually acquires Austrian citizenship if a parent is Austrian, irrespective of place of birth.

    yes, Austria did join the schengen zone, therefore is part of the European Union,

    Females are exempt from conscription. Yes Austria is a part of the EU.
