How do you record from a tape deck (audio cord) to a computer mic input?
I am trying to record audio (1 hr long) that is on tape onto my computer. There is a mic imput, but I cannot find software that will allow me to record (at least not longer than 60 seconds.)
Update:Thanks a bunch. Everyone named the same software. Cool

Two things. First, you need a dual male cable, that is, a cable that has a jack on both ends. You plug one end into the tape recorder's audio output socket, and you plug the other end into the mic socket on the computer.
To do long recordings, you need a program called Audacity; it's not only free, but open source too. See my previous Yahoo answer (my response was chosen best answer to the question) for more details about Audacity.
Audacity is a good piece of software. It's available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net./
The sound recorder in Windows does (start-> accessories->entertainment->sound recorder). Just make sure you select wave or what u hear from your sound card recording set up.
look on google and type in Audicity
