How long until the "two party system" charade is dropped?

When will people realize that the democratic and republican parties are really just two sides of the same group. As long as it is Democrats vs. Republicans, you wont ever see true change in our day to day lives. Well you may be change, but it will involve thought police, food alotments and universal curfews.

Actually, I think the parties like having their sheep tow the "party" lines. If the people are bickering amoung each other, nobody will notice the tanks rolling in.

Update:

courageous - damnit, i am the only true chicken avatar. I have headphones!!! and am wearing a kings robe. begin your bowing you pestulant swine!!

  • Countries with 4 parties like Germany have the same problem. The real issue is, that Government is a parasitic entity, feeding of the people, with little or no return. There are no controls, no efficiency, no productivity, just a race of who can spend the most tax payers money.

A modern state would need to install modern check and balances. Hard nosed controls, aka -you deliver or you are gone-, no tolerance. Our "leaders" can lie, falsely promise, do nothing, waste money, steal, nothing will happen to them, even if they get caught, they keep their 6 digit pensions.

People need to wake up, understand the failing system and ask for intelligent change, not hot air.

When do we ask the Government to pull our military, wasting billions every month, out of other countries. We the people are to lazy.

Why aren't we protesting in Washington around the White House for real change?

  • "When will people realize that the democratic and republican parties are really just two sides of the same group."

I agree completely. Spread the word!

  • Its not about two or more/less parties, its about power. More correctly it is about the Power Shift, which has been relentlessly going on, ever since the Internet changed the rules of engagement.

We moved from an agrarian society (First Wave), to an Industrial society (Second Wave), and thereafter into the current Third Wave (see references below). In many developing (India, China, BRIC countries) or under-developed countries (in the African continent) they are transitioning from First to Second or Third waves, and from Second to Third waves simultaneously.

Each wave, or wealth system, has its own social structures, power bases, legal systems, key drivers etc. Each wealth system/wave had its own ruling systems, Kings and Monarchs in the First wave, democracy in the Second wave and we are still trying(un0successfully) to make democracy adjust to the Third wave.Obviously when we have more than one wealth system/wave, in the same country, chaos and conflict is inevitable. Transitioning from one wealth system to another is also traumatic. Like India and China, which were global leaders in the First /Agrarian Wave, accounting for over 80% of global GDP, and reduced to "under-developed countries", in a scant century by the Second/Industrial wave powers.Their elites destroyed/subjugated and colonized etc, and change forced to make them move on to the next wave. A similar problem exists in moving to the Third wave.

Democracy, as it evolved a few hundred years back when people were in the First/Agrarian wave, when literacy was limited,, distances were great, and people elected a "Representative" to represent them in the elected/law-making bodies/parliaments/senate etc.The Representatives were meant to debate the pros-cons and make laws to suit the most people, rather than arbitrary laws made by Monarchs/Dictators etc. The executive (elected like in the US system, or Ministers in the Parliamentary system), guided policy and execution. These laws were then executed/judged by a legal system.

This system was MUCH better than earlier dispensations. However it barely worked, even in the slow changing Agrarian/First Wave. The Second Wave, and now the Third Wave have accelerated change exponentially. The News, Live TV and Reporting, satellites, Internet, Cellphones, SMS and computer net works have all revolutionized the world. Knowledge is exploding, arguably technical knowledge is doubling every two years. Our existing systems, which were born in an agrarian age, managed to be patched up for the Industrial age, just CANNOT keep up with the Third/Information Age.

But we continue to flog the old horse and hope that it can deliver. Just like we overhauled the systems of our corporations and organizations, with integrated IT driven solutions like Enterprise Resource Planning systems and their evolutions (BPM, SaaS etc). We need to do the same for our governance systems, and the very concept of "Elected Representatives" and the role they play. Can SMSes, FaceBook, Flicker, Twitter, be harnessed for the future responsive and accountable governments.

One/Two or more party's are unlikely to be the solution. The system needs a new design, not just re-engineering. The transitioning from the present, to the "new design" itself will be a BIG challenge. This, again, is not unlike an organization changing from a manual system to a first generation computer based system, and then to an ERP system, probably integrated over the Internet/Intranet/Extra net with other collaborating organizations. Of course it will be MUCH MORE DIFFICULT, involving not only National governments, but International organizations like the United Nations, ILO, and NGOs like green Peace etc. The process would be similar to integrating an organization's systems, to that of its business partners , the suppliers, customers etc. Only this will to integrate national systems to that of other countries, to counter terrorism, global warming, poverty, human and other resources, knowledge, patents, copyright, Open Source etc. to the other global players.

SORRY I HAVE NO SIMPLE SILVER BULLET, ALL OF THIS NEEDS CLEAR OBJECTIVES, OUT-OF THE -BOX AND BOLD THINKING, TOUGH BARGAINING(WTO, WEF etc). BUT WE CAN DO IT. AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR WE DID IT. THE CURRENT ECONOMIC MELTDOWN IS AS MUCH A CRUCIAL TURNING POINT, WE NEED TO DO IT AGAIN.

THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION CREATED MODERN NATION STATES, PERHAPS THE MELTDOWN WILL CREATE A GLOBAL HUMAN PLANET.

  • As soon as moochers stop voting for the politicians in the two parties who take from others to give to them.

  • If people would stop depending on the main stream media for ALL their information and do a little research on their own, then they would find out that they have more choices out there.

  • As far as I know, it is difficult for third-party candidates to win support in public elections. I think the third parties (i.e. Green) need charismatic candidates who can influence the voting public to choose them in an election year.
