  • Druggery is a sin according to the Bible.

    Tobacco addiction is druggery.

  • well the bible doesn't use the word tobacco but it oes help us to appreciate that fact that it can defile our flesh.

On the other hand, there is a far more profound reason to avoid smoking: your desire to maintain friendship with God. Would you not feel offended if you gave someone an expensive present and he or she threw it away? Well, God gives us “life and breath.” (Acts 17:25) Imagine how he feels when you misuse that gift! The apostle Paul thus wrote: “Therefore, since we have these promises [of having an approved relationship with God], beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear.” (2 Corinthians 7:1) Smoking does more than simply defile the flesh, polluting one’s body with noxious chemicals; it also defiles one’s spirit, or dominant mental force. Smoking is corrupt, selfish, ungodly.

In spite of all of this, many youths are still tempted to smoke. Why this is so and how a youth can withstand such pressures will be the subject of a future article.

Before letting yourself get hooked, think of the consequences

  • Tobacco is an 'herb' created by God. It is no more a 'sin' than marijuana. HOWEVER, the misuse of these CAN be sinful. Tobacco was properly used in religious ceremonies. Puffing just for the nicotine hit is bad for the body, and therefore sinful.

  • Tobacco can cause you to have lung cancer because of the Tar build up in the lungs after years of abuse.

Now you the surgeon general for over 40 years says it can kill if you use it. You must keep your body free of contamination that includes alcohol as well. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, but if you defile your body it will die sooner than you think.

  • Ummm....as it was noted above: tobacco was widely in use for thousands of years, and it's cultivation was done far and wide on every continent.

Saying that it "wasn't discovered" until the 17th Century is just plain wrong, historically speaking.

  • No. It's a plant.

And your history needs some fine-tuning:

    c. 6000 BC: Experts believe the tobacco plant, as we know it today, begins growing in the Americas.

c.1 BC: Experts believe American inhabitants have begun finding ways to use tobacco, including smoking (in a number of variations), chewing and in probably hallucinogenic enemas (by the Peruvian Aguaruna aboriginals).

    c. 1 AD: Tobacco was "nearly everywhere" in the Americas. (American Heritage Book of Indians, p.41).

    17th Century??? Dude. Please.

  • No, but our bodies are still the temple of the Holy Spirit, and so we should take care of it by abstaining from things like drugs and excessive alchol that can harm it. Also in the bible it also talks about moderation of all substances (which covers obeisity too (sry, if i spelled that wrong...).

  • Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear.

    2 cor 7:1

For the undeserved kindness of God which brings salvation to all sorts of men has been manifested, instructing us to repudiate ungodliness and worldly desires and to live with soundness of mind and righteousness and godly devotion amid this present system of things, while we wait for the happy hope and glorious manifestation of the great God and of the Savior of us, Christ Jesus, who gave himself for us that he might deliver us from every sort of lawlessness and cleanse for himself a people peculiarly his own, zealous for fine works. Titus 2: 11-14

Just a couple of scrips for you to look over brother.

  • Hmmm....

well, god made tobacco to help cure. But then people stopped using it for curing, and more for smoking and chewing. It destroyed the precious body god had given them and made them a slave to addiction.

Yes, it is a sin. And very stupid to do.

  • correct tabbaco wasn't "discovered" until they discovered america for the old world....however its NOT good for the body so on one level it would just pure stupidity...

i do believe they smoked "opium" though in those days...

in old time movies you'd see them puffing on those

water pipes(bongs) which is historical....before tobbaco
