Texas Renaissance Festival?

Is the Texas Renaissance Festival an appropriate day trip for a family with young children on any given Saturday?

Is there any truth to the rumors concerning an emphasis on alcohol and women? Has the Festival changed over the past twenty years as far as appropriateness is concerned? Would children enjoy this festival?

  • The Texas Renaissance Festival website is here:

    http://www.texrenfest.com/

They do sell tickets for everyone and children under 4 y.o. are admitted free.

If you check the Games and Rides section, they are lots of activities for children:

They do have `School Days`, open for students:

I have no doubt this festival is family oriented and children would enjoy it.

  • They do have an emphasis on more adult themes. You have to judge for yourself if your child is at an age where that will be a bad influence on them.

We took our daughters many times when they were younger and all of the more adult themed jokes just went over their heads and they never thought twice about it.

A week ago my daughter who is now a teenager went to the Texas Renn Fest on a field trip with her school and the when I asked her how it was, her first response was "I can't believe how dirty their shows are."

So long as you are going with your child it is possible to temper what they will see at the Faire. Just be sure to go to the items that focus on younger children and enjoy the rides.

  • I'm not sure about austin. But I knwo there are a couple of huge festivals in San Antonio.
