Seriously, do you care about "consistency"?
To quote a good friend of mine at my weekly NASCAR gathering yesterday, "Consistency don't put butts in bleachers."
Does consistency matter to you, or do you care less about it than the NASCAR organization?

I don't care about consistency and I don't think anyone else does either. However, nascar and the team sponsor do because it guarantees the amount of exposure a car will get.
You have hit on the main problem with nascar which people may not be aware of. The points system and nascar regulations are set up to reward being consistent and finishing races rather than winning races. Based on reading the book on cheating in nascar and the way the point system works I realize that the way cars are set up and the way drivers drive they are not really giving it 110% effort they are doing more like 99% effort. If they really really pushed themselves they they run the risk of crashing, blowing an engine, etc and recieving no points so they do what they can up to a point so that they finish the race.
This is why they used to have a once a year no points non-Cup race called the Winston. Where the winner got $1M no one else got anything and no points were awarded. So drivers had to drive just as fast as they possibly could. I think they got rid of it because people perceived it as being too dangerous.
If I could change nascar I would make the point system like F1 points 10 for the winner, 6 for second, etc down to no points for anyone after 6th place so teams and drivers knew that they needed to do what it takes to win.
Heres the deal. We as the consumers who buy tickets dont care unless its the matter of our driver getting into the chase. If its not about our driver and their locked in or something we don't care if someone else crashes especially if it is someone we dont like *cough* Kyle and Kurt Busch and Robbie Gordon *cough* but when it comes to our driver we want them to win and have good finishes and hope they dont dont get involved in a wreck. Now when it comes to the drivers of course they care and so do the sponsors and the owners because if they do well the more air time the car and driver get which means more publicity for their products so we will buy them especially if its our favorite driver and they hope not to be involved in a wreck but you cant help that and the better they do the more money they get by the tv stations and the fans and by the sponsors so we may care at times and may not care at others but to the organizations it really does matter.
Yes, I care about consistency, but only to a certain extent. I want to see racing more than anything. However, I favor drivers who are talented and can be consitent..not ones that can pull some good luck out of a horseshoe stuck in their rear and win a race or go dreally good one week.
Am I going to stop watching b/c of consistency or lack thereof.. Uhmm no.. As long as their is some good racig going on I'm game..
To a certain extent I care, but only after it becomes apparent that my guy isn't going to win the race- then yeah, I at least want to see a top 10 or 15 finish from him- for the championship points. But really- like when Kennseth won the championship- boring- he only won one race all year if I remember correctly. I want my driver to be consistent- winning consistently if possible- but if not, I'm happy with top 10.
I agree
I agree with your friend.
