Iinksys WRT54G vs problem?

Hi I've just started having this problem with my router. A couple of days ago, my computer was able to go online but all of a sudden, it can't. I've tried fixing it and unplugged and plugged the wires again back to the router and it works, but not always. When I'm using it for my laptop, I have to switch the wires to get wifi, and most of the time, I have to reconnect so that it works on my laptop. But the thing is, when I'm using it on my laptop, my desktop doesn't get any and normally both are able to receive internet connection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    First make sure that all the network cables are in the right places.

    Then try this:

    Shut down all the computers.

    Then unplug the router and modem.

    Wait one minute.

    Plug the modem back in. Wait for it to boot up. You should just have a power light and a steady connection light.

    Once the modem is up, plug in the router.

    Start one computer and wait for it to fully boot up and connect to the internet.

    Start the next computer and wait for it to fully boot up and connect to the internet

    etc...
