You can burn pictures on any kind of CDs which is normal CD or DVD. Normally, you can put many more photos on DVD than CD. Do you have any softwares to burn your photos ? If not, I suggest you to use Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 free which costs you nothing. You can download it from the following link.
If it's just photoes, yes. CDs have no problem storing pics. But if you have a video camera that you need to put any videos you have taken you will need to put it on a DVD if you want to watch those on TV.

you can use any kind of cd just open the cd and drag the pictures into it. click burn at the top and your done

CD-R if you just want to burn once, or CD-RW if you want to be able to erase the disk and use it again.
DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW or DVD+RW if you need more space. (+ and - are two different formats - modern drives don't care which one you use.)
