Threatened via e-mail. Report to parents?

I bought an item on eBay, it never arrived, so I open a dispute. Ask for tracking >Update:

@jimbobsebring - the kid was smart enough to create his own eBay account, but not to make his own PayPal account. Given the limited feedback, that is my deduction, at least. That, and he used the same username that popped up a few times when I Googled his name.

  • Contact his parent immediately with a copy of the threat. Contact Ebay again and inform them of the child's age and he is the one responsible for the threat. If you have a contact number I would call the parents also and let them know what's going on. It's their Ebay account that will be suspended.

  • Even though you've chosen a best answer, I'm going to chime in.

I would send a letter addressed to both his parents with the explanation you've provided here, as well as all the info you were able to gather so quickly off the Internet and a copy of the message he sent you. I would explain that as a minor, he is prohibited from setting up his own account on eBay, and that they should shut it down before the little flake makes someone mad enough to either hunt him down, sue them, or publish their bad experience along with all this info.

Getting a letter at their home address will get their attention far more quickly than an e-mail.
