My Betta fish is dis colored?

My Betta (F) is like a dark blueish purple-y color and has red fins. On her stomach she is like silver and some of her color is fading. What do Ido? Is this normal? Please don't suggest taking her to a vet or something- My parents won't spend that money

Thankyou in advance and sorry for spelling errors!

  • Are you sure it's a female? Females have the short fins and tail, males are the "pretty" ones. Anyways, it could be a few things. The water temp could be too cold, do you have a tank heater? If not you should buy one. There could also be chemicals in the water. Do you have a filter? Do you ad tank conditioner to the water to get rid of the crap in tap water? If not you can buy tap water conditioner for $3-$9, it'll get rid of most nasty things found in tap water. Tap water isn't good for fish. You should also buy a filter. A few things about Betta fish; they should at least be in a 5gallon tank, have a tank heater and a filter. They need warm temps (78-82degrees)

I've had betta's most of my life, and a tank without a heater and filter compared to a tank with a heater and filter makes a huge difference in the fish.

  • She might be a marble, you can look up pictures to compare. Marbles change color and pattern, usually it starts as a random patch on the body and spreads over the course of a few weeks. If this is the case, you have nothing to worry about.

Otherwise, most betta illness can be treated simply by keeping the water clean and warm. Make sure you are keeping up with water changes and keep the temp around 78 degrees. If you have no live plants, you can think about adding a bit of aquarium salt too.

  • With that colouring it's not female. It's male.

There are no vets for fish. LOL

Just go to the store and find colour-enhancing betta pellets (food)

Keep him in a 2.5 or 5 gallon tank with a filter and light and you're good.
