Bios Error?

Ok... so i know that i cant remove the bios (soldered on). I removed the battery (to reset the bios) but when i turn it on, it resets the bios settings... not to the ones i had but the default. Its really quite frustrating, and i was wondering if there was any way to simply bypass the bios? (and the manufacturers disks's dont help, they just reset it... any help would be great... dosent even have to be right... the boards toast... so if i break it more i really dont care oh so much... thanks

  • What are you trying to do? If you remove the battery on the motherboard of course it is going to reset the bios settings to default. The bios is necessary to run everything on your motherboard, it is a small program that is written and stored on a chip on the motherboard. You can flash the bios meaning you can update it, or reinstall the same version but you cannot remove it, or by pass it. By removing it, ie. wiping it out by not installing the correct bios or by not finishing installing a correct bios will render your motherboard useless. If you were trying to update the bios and ran into problems I recommend that you do not shut off your computer because if you do it is all over the motherboard cannot be saved. Usually a flash program for your bios will prompt you to save the current bios before it rewrites the one you are trying to upload to it. If you have a working bios I recommend you load that until you can figure out what happened.

The poster before me mentioned that there are "bios viruses" I beg to differ. I have never heard of or encountered a bios virus ever and I have been working on computers for a long time. Perhaps they are confused and are thinking about a boot sector virus, which infects the master boot record which is the first sector of your hard drive which has nothing to do with your bios.

Please repost what it is you are trying to do and why and perhaps we can help you.

  • If you have a mother board manual, (if you dont have one, get one)

The other option is pulling the onboard battery out for about 30 minutes, this will cause the bios to go back to the default settings!

If you have a manual, you will notice on the board diagram that there are three pins. On some boards its called the CMOS RAM clear sector!

Pins 1 & 2 are normal mode and pins 2 & 3 will Clear the CMOS (BIOS)!

Most boards are shipped with pins 2 & 3 jumpered.

  • Sounds just like the battery at the motherboard that provides the voltage to keep the BIOS know-how is useless. Replace the battery. You will ought to take the quilt off your pc and seem for a small circular battery approximately the dimensions of a nickel at the motherboard. Replace with identical mannequin and voltage.

  • locate your model number of your Motherboard download the bios update and update your bios this will solve all of your problems. and one is you have a bios virus. and yes you can get one and the people that make them are just plain mean. mean mean mean. so just update your bios and you will be fine. if you reset your bios the virus will still be there. the only way is to download the update and if you just updated it and then it crashed then man you just have hurt you computer. and it will never work agin. if you downloaded the wrong bios update then it is still dead. but please for the love of computers update the right bios.

  • What exactly are you trying to do in the bios ??? And NO.... you cannot bypass the bios, it's the brain. Without the brain, it cannot think or function.
