Wireless/Motem connectivity issues?

ive been having connection issues for like 2 days now. our computer is old, but i'm not sure if that matters. i finally got some connection on my laptop, so i'm asking a question. the only thing is that its terribly slow. and to get it working i have to remove all the cables, plug them back in, and then hold down the refresh button. i get some connectivity, as i mentioned earlier. any clue to what could be happening? is it really time for a new desktop?

  • If this problem is happening to all of your computers at the same time, than I doubt the problem is in the computer. I has to be in the modem or in your lines. I had the same thing happen to me when I moved my modem from my room to the basement. Every few seconds the connection would be cut off from all my computers. the problem ended up being the phone cable going into my modem caused by subtle interference. As I said earlier, if it is happening to all of your computers, then I would recommend you contact your ISP for help to determine if the modem is at fault, or if it the lines are.

Hope you find a solution soon.

  • Are you having to cut off power to the modem? It is possible that your modem is bad. I would call your ISP tech's support and they can walk you through steps to see if it's your computer or the modem or the ISP itself. If it is your computer, you might not have to replace the whole thing.
