mercedes car dealer v. a porsche?

Let's say you're a mercedes car dealer and you specialize in the SL amg convertible. A customer walks in says he's tied between the SL 63 amg and the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet. That porsche is a beautiful and as powerful if not more powerful than the SL amg. So as the dealer, do you just capitalize on the better points of the SL, talk about the SL like it's the best vehicle to own and never mention the porsche? or do you attack the porsche with it's worse features as well? it' really difficult to say that the porsche sucks compared to the SL. So how do you convince a guy that the Mercedes SL amg is better than the Porsche 911 turbo cabriolet?

  • They are two completely different approaches in cars.

The SL is an normally aspirated 6.3 liter V8 525 HP front engined rear wheel drive roadster with creature comforts the Porsche crowd never dreamed of. Not to mention the lack of anything other than normal maintenance.

The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is a turbo charged 6 cylinder rear engined rear drive design from the 1960's. It has a rough ride, is difficult to handle and is a bear to maintain.

I would convince the buyer that ist is a better investment to go for the Mercedes because he/she will soon tire of the Porsche's rough edges.

  • never attack, it makes the customer think about the GOOD points in rebuttal! talk up the engineering, the comfort, and the after sale service.
