My guinea pig seems depressed...?
Twix has lived with another guinea pig, Hershey, for most of her life, but Hershey passed away last night and Twix seems lonely and sad. She has a house in the back of her cage, but is staying in the front corner and is hardly responding to me. She licked me a little while I held her but, that's about it. What should I do?

I'm really sorry you lost Hershey.
Twix is mourning the loss of her friend. Because piggies can become very bonded to their cagemate, they sometimes go into very bad depression when the cagemate dies. For this reason, keep a very good eye on her & make sure she's eating. They have been known to become so depressed they stop eating, which can be catastrophic for a guinea pig. Give her LOTS of cuddles & attention right now.
As soon as possible, start looking into the possibility of adopting her another buddy. A reputable guinea pig rescue is a good place to start and will help you find a compatible match for her.
Best of luck to you & Twix.
Well seeing as guinea pigs are highly social creatures that form unbelievably strong bonds with other guinea pigs, i would get another guinea pig! You will have to be careful though because if you just plop them in the same cage, they will fight. Do some research and find out how to introduce them properly. If you can't get another guinea pig, for whatever reason, spend a lot of time with Twix everyday, I'd say about five to six hours.
By the way, do not get Twix a rabbit for a friend. Rabbits and guinea pigs do not get along, despite popular belief. Rabbits tend to bully the guinea pig, which can bring out bites from the guinea pig and a kick to the face from a rabbit can kill a guinea pig.
Guinea pigs are social animals and do want organization to be chuffed. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that he's an person now so which you're able to desire to be careful introducing a clean one. you're able to desire to introduce them on impartial territory (I used the empty tub bathtub) for short periods of time until eventually they look getting alongside. This took a pair of week for me; untill then I had the recent one stay in a distinctive cage. that they had some fights and humped one yet another slightly then they have been superb. once you do flow them in mutually ensure you provide the cage the terrific sparkling it has ever had to objective to eliminate maximum of Poochini's smell so he does not see it like his house is being invaded. the least complicated factor is get a baby male guinea pig as a baby is far less of a danger than an person. yet you may introduce an person (I even have). while you're prepared to get Poochini neutered he can get a girl pal which he could settle for much less stressful than a male.
I suggest getting another guinea pig because isn't that how you'd act if you just lost you bestie? so maybe wait a couple of days and then suprise her with another friend I'd be happy! it will be awesome to see them interact..... and see how happy she will be : D
well your guinea pig will be depressed for the rest of her life unless you get her a friend. sorry but it looks like thats your only option.
Sorry about hersey. may she rest in piece.
I also have 2 piggies and am not looking forward to this happening to me. I would suggest getting another piggie to see if this helps
