first of all u'll need a wire with 3.5mm plugs on both ends...
connect other end into LINE-IN plug on ur motherboard....
u can use any sound recorder for storing it into raw Wave format...
many are available over internet...but i usually use Nero Wave Editor...
it has gud noise reduction system...u can set a graph to control attenuation actually...and many more functions for effects and cutting or editing the sound.....
then u can convert it into alomost all of popular formats.. and u can decide the bitRate also....

try using an analogue to digital converter.
