How do you transfer files from a disc onto itunes?

I have seasons of family guy, simpsons, and south park on discs that i got from a store... and my computer will allow me to play them on a certain program. But how do you change the file type so i can put them on itunes and then onto my ipod?

iTunes only support MP4, H264 video formats. There are some useful guides about how to rip DVD to iTunes and convert videos and TV shows to iTunes for iPod, iPhone, etc, it works well for all the Windows and Mac OS users.
