Help?? Panic attacks due to medical issues?

Okay so I'm a 16 year old girl and I really don't know if anyone else has this but it keeps me up all night. If someone starts to slightly hurt or I feel something I shouldn't i will immediately panic and my mind just has a panic attack. For example if my lower right abdomen starts hurting ill go into a panic attack. This is because I think it could be serious and I am afraid of that. I am afraid of being rushed to the emergency room and I am just afraid of any type of pain being serious. This has been going on for so long and right now I can't sleep because I felt pain in my chest. (And I read a book about cancer earlier). It usually just turns out that I have gas or ate something bad earlier. How do I stop this? Does anyone else have this type of problem?

  • I have anxiety and this usually happens to me. I did some research and learned that all this that your feeling or thinking is all in your head. Take in consideration that nothing bad is going to happen. Be positive and let go of the negative. I have that pain in my chest at times as well, and what I do is that I remain calm, i breathe in and out and I imagine myself at the beach where its calm and relaxing. Talk to your doctor about this. There are many people (other than you and myself) suffering of this disorder. Just know that you are not going through this alone. You can have your life back, but first step is to talk to your doctor, your doctor will give you much more information on how to control it. Remember be positive and let go of all the negativity in your mind. Breathe in and out and tell yourself that everything is going to be alright.

  • Don't feel alone. Many people suffer from Panic Disorder. However, in order to control your panic attacks, you have to learn to control your mind. When you begin to feel fear, try to imagine a special place or something good that has happened to you. If you can, then go somewhere that you feel safe. Sit down and take deep breaths to help slow your heart rate, all the while keep telling yourself that deep down you KNOW that no harm is coming to you. If you feel especially comfortable around a friend or family member ( my sister gets these every so often and I'm the only one who can "talk her down") try to have them present (or if you can, call them) during the episode.

Learning to do this takes time so don't get discouraged if you don't show instant relief.

If it gets too be too much for you to control on your own then ask your doctor for mild sedative or anti-anxiety drug( such as XANAX).

I hope this helps, I've enclose a website link where you can learn more about the disorder:

    Feel better.
