Volvo S80 as first car?

I was wondering if a 99-02 Volvo S80 would be a good first car. I want the "S80 T6" which is turbo..supposedly it goes from 0-60 in 6.8 seconds...I like these big kinda of cars...whats your opinion?

Update:

i know parts may be alot to fix..but i plan on getting a warranty in case the engine or transmission goes out (or a costly repair)..and the oil changes are all the same..the air filter is actually cheaper and i can do that myself..

  • They are/can be expensive to maintain, but you can't beat them for safety.

  • It is a common misconception that Volvo's are expensive to maintain. Yes, they are going to cost you a littel more than a Toyota, Ford or Honda, but they are a luxury vehicle. In the luxury vehicle car market, they are the least expensive vehicles to maintain. This months (April) Consumer Reports actually stated that it was the cheapest to maintain over a three year period. Lexus came in second with $2,600 more in repairs. Also, if you plan on having the vehicle for a while, realize Volvo is the only manufacturer with a 'Million Mile" Car club. In order to be eligable to join, you must have the same vehicle with the same engine and transmission with one million miles on it. That says alot for quality! Also, the average age of registered Volvo's right now are 18years old!

Safety wise, you couldn't find a better car. The Volvo corporation devotes 33% of their time to bettering their cars in the way of safety. They have a street team of 270 people who go to severe accidents and study what ways they could better their cars so that the safety is improved and that fatality could have been avoided in the future.

I personally know 7 people who were driving a Volvo and walked away from a severe accident. Several said the police on the scene were perplexed on how they could still be alive.

No my friend, a Volvo would not be a good first car... it would be a great first car. Enjoy it and take care of it and it will take care of you.

Good Luck and if you have any further questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

  • I was looking at one of these about 6 mo ago, which was like new. I went to the local auto parts store and discovered that things like air filters, oil filters and such were for some reason priced about DOUBLE what I'm used to paying. I suspect just about EVERYTHING would cost a lot more, so I didn't buy the car.

Stay away from turbo powered cars unless you can handle expensive repairs.
