Does my car insurance premium go up if I file a claim?

I know it would go up if I'm at fault, but what about if a person rear-ended me and is clearly at fault? Will my premiums still go up? There's about $500 in damage and my neck has been hurting ever since. Should I report it? What should I do? I heard when you report an accident your premiums go up sky high.

Update:

No police report has been filed and the other driver presumably has not contacted her insurance.

  • If does not matter now your insurance company will get a copy of the accident from the police or the other guys insurance or from the dmv when they guy reports the accident like he is supposed to do, Ad are you. Instead of spinning over this endlessly get your butt to a doctor and get treated for your injuries. Then contact your insurance as it looks better hearing it from you first. Report the accident to the police since you are injured and to the dmv as required by law.

Your past the point of coulda ? woulda? shoulda? way past. Do what you need to do according to the law none of which you have done yet. Take control get treated for the neck follow doctors orders and then get the insurance company involved call motor vehicles and make a police report after the fact if necessary. thats life sometimes it sucks get over it get it done move on with life ok?
